So recently in class, we have been learning about plants and all sorts of interesting things they can do. You would honestly be surprised at the ingenuity of our flora. So today I'm going to share with you some of the interesting things we have found out about plants.
1. Plants are Mobile.
This one shocked me to be honest. I've always thought growing up that plants couldn't move, but some plants are surprisingly mobile.
Different plants use different ways of moving around to find the best growing spots, to get in to the sun, or protect its seedlings. A plant that can do this is the Liana plant which has developed glider like petals which hold the seeds in the middle and fly the seeds to a more advantageous growing spot.
2. Different Plants Grow Better in Different Places.
I didn't know that different species of plants grow better in different places/seasons. Which is apparently common knowledge. I learnt this from our little garden experiment.
3. Plants can Pollinate Differently than One Another.
I learnt that there are different methods of pollination depending on the species of plant. Some plants can be pollinated by wind, some can be pollinated by birds, insects, bats, and other small mammals.
4.You can Drown Plants Quite Easily
Ummmm... I don't really need to explain how I found that out..
So, those are some of the interesting facts that I have found out about plants. As always i hope you have an awesome day and I'll see you next time! :P

Speeches!
Oh boy. It's Speeches time!! The speech competition is an annually
hated event in the school calendar. Each student must write a speech or poem depending if your younger or not. I used to be one of the people who hate speeches but after last year which I won I've really enjoyed speeches. This year I've been stressing so hard about the whole thing because I feel as though I now have a reputation to hold up but lately I've been trying to be more calm and natural so I can preform better.
Because of this stress, I haven't been writing a speech to the standard I would set so I've completely revisited the matter (for the 4th time). And written my last speech. Unfortunatly, for my own enjoyment I've been keeping my speech topic a secret so I can't tell you right now but in a latter blog post I'll be sure to add it.
Anyway, thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed and have an awesome day! Do you like speeches?? If so, good on you for not being afraid to get on the stage and express yourselves!

Book Banter
Now that book week is over, looking back on it I realize I was hardly there for any of the festivities due to a cut in my eye but that doesn't stop me from talking about the things that I was there for.
Well... It kinda does actually. I wasn't there for the author visit, the book swap AND I had basically forgotten about book character day till the day before it so i didn't have much of a costume.
I ended up going as "Mahon Welsh School Year Book 2016."
........ Yup, I went as myself. DON'T JUDGE ME.
Anyway shenanigans aside, for the bits I was there for. Book week was pretty fun. As always. [Insert cheesy hope you have a good week stuff here] <3.

Books
Hey guys, I'm back with another post. This time about me, and my favorite books through out life!
When I was just a young lad, some of the books I read were: The Animal Undie Ball, Thomas The Tank Engine and The Gruffalo.
Regular picture books as you would expect from a child of about 3 to 6 years old.
A bit later on, when i was about 9-ish?? Yeah, 9-ish i was in to stuff like Pokémon and Dinosaurs which is again, Pretty normal.
And now, at my age (13) I'm still in to Pokémon, but now, also stuff like Mysteries, and well.. still Dinosaurs.
Anyway, thank you for reading and as always, I hope you have an awesome day!

Production Stuff + I'm Back
Hey guys, I'm back!!!! I know I haven't posted in ages but I'm finally back and ready to post regularly again.
So recently, we had our school production which has been keeping me busy as I was a main role!
I was the bad guy, King John who was temporarily king standing in place for King Richard the Lion Hart, but I became corrupted and thieved from the land.
Sadly I was thwarted in the end but it was a lot of fun acting and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again!!
My favorite part was probably getting in to character as King John. He was a truly fun persona to adapt to.
Thank you for reading and i hope you have a wonderful day.

Space Microbiome Stuff!
Hey guys, I'm back with another post, This time about microbiomes in space and space as a topic in general.
The reason I'm talking about microbiomes (which is out of the blue considering my regular topics) is that we have a project at school where there are 6 activities on a sheet. You have to choose 6 of the 10 to complete in the space of 6 weeks. One of the possible tasks is writing about something going on with NASA or a space related study in recent times. And on NASA.gov i found an interesting article about microbiomes in space that I thought I would write about.
So, I've rambled on long enough about why I'm writing about microbiomes. But I haven't actually said anything about the actual microbiomes yet!
Microbiomes are essentially a biome (fancy word for climate)
of microbes. An you may be thinking right now, what does NASA have to do with microbiomes? Well, a recent study NASA has started is to do with the microbes and the microbiomes in NASA space ships. They are doing this study to find out different things that will eventually help them make the journey to Mars more fruitful and possible more quickly.
Phew, that was a very long post! If you've gotten to this point thank you very much for sitting through that hole long spiel and enduring my long, boring and meandering post. As always I hope you've had a wonderful day and bye!
P.S: This is going to be my last post for a couple weeks because its the holidays tomorrow. <3

Time Managment
Hi guys I'm back for another blog post, this time about the time management skills of me and my peers in the classroom.
The reason time management is an important skill to have in the year 7 and 8 classrooms here at St. Ben's is because of the task system that I have gone over in previous posts.
To give an explanation for context. The task system is the program we use in class to do our work, the way it works is that at the start of the week we get a sheet, the sheet has a timetable, and a set of "tasks" that have to be complete by the end of the week, a lot of the time the other year groups in school are doing designated work, the year 7s and 8s have "task time" in which we get to complete those "tasks" on the sheet.
If the "tasks" are not completed to a satisfactory standard in our teacher's eyes we have to stay inside whilst other children in the syndicate get to go outside and play Dodge-ball.
As Dodge-ball is a fun activity at the end of the week, it is an instenive to finish your task, and to finish your "tasks" by the end of the week you need good time management.
Since i spent about 14 days explaining how the system actually works I'll go briefly in to how good I actually am at time management. In short, I rekon I'm ok at it, its just im a slave to the video game League Of legends, and when I start playing I can't stop.
I find myself doing a mix of school task work and home task work, depening on A: how busy the week is and B: how many tasks there are.
Thank you very much for reading, I hope you have a wonderful day and just for this post I'm going to put the link to downloading League Of Legends here: https://signup.leagueoflegends.com/en/signup/redownload . If you click on this link or copy it in to your browser you can download the game.
And if you at all interested, my user name is MSwaga029 if you want to add me!

Production Dancing!
Hey guys, I'm back with another post, this time about the production dances we're learning.
Each day now, we have been doing at east one Production based thing as it is a very important thing in the school year. On Fridays, we do Production dance practice learning the songs that we dance to through the production.
The song we're dancing to is called Robbin Hood by Extra Circular
which is about a staged robbery which was failed and they were taken to a police station.
There are also other dances but I haven't done any of them yet so I guess that my favorite one is the Robbin Hood dance but it could change as I do more of the dances.
Thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.

DOGO News
Hey guys, I'm back with another post, this time about the very intriguing website for kids: DOGO News.
DOGO News is a news site for children filled with interesting articles that are very cool and just the sort of thing children like me would be interested in. Our task this week is to go in depth in to one of the articles we've seen on the site so I'm writing about one of their more recent articles about wearable tech for Olympic athletes.
The essence of the article is really that it explains pieces of technology helping athletes achieve greater heights of performance.
It's a very interesting article that I enjoyed reading and here is the link. http://www.dogonews.com/2016/8/13/wearable-tech-gives-athletes-an-edge-at-the-2016-rio-olympics .

Riddle
Hey guys, I'm back with another post, this time something different to the usual, a riddle.
This is going to be a riddle using a metaphor. There will be multiple clues, so with out further ado, begin!
I am taller than everyone that walks past me though I can not move.
My arms are long yet spindly and get broken often.
I have no legs but I am unmoving and will only move in death.
When I am killed I am cremated in people's homes for warmth.
But while I am alive I am the life force of people around me.
Thank you for reading this post and don't forget to comment on what you think I'm trying to describe.

Olympics
Hey guys I'm back with another post. This time about the Olympic Games.
The Olympics started recently and have blown up with almost everyone knowing about them. But the bulk of the post was to tell about a particular sport that I've watched so I'm going to tell you guys about Weight Lifting.
Well,it's kind of strange, but Weight Lifting seems boring until you actually watch it, then when you do, it's awesome!
The way it works is that everyone gets 3 goes to lift the weight in the 3 categories: The Snatch, The Clean And Jerk and The Combine.
Sadly, I didn't get to watch all of it but it was fun watching just The Snatch and i really liked it. So obviously I didn't see who was on the podium. Anyway, thanks for watching and have a great week.

Book Groups
Hey guys. I'm finally back after the holidays an ready to go!
So, this weeks post will be about book groups. Every year all the intermediate classes get together and have inter class book groups.
At the book groups we are assigned a group in which we read and analyze the book we are given and discuss it at set meeting times.
My group this year is reading the book: The Silver Sword which I'm really enjoying. The book itself is about a family that lives in Warsaw and the Nazis come and take away the father: Joseph who runs a school and he was taken away because he turned one of the pictures of Hitler against the wall and someone told the Nazis.
The story so far has been about his daring escape from the concentration camp he was sent to with the aid of a poor couple.
It is a great read and I'm enjoying the discussion process our group goes through at our meetings. Thank you for reading even after so long of no posts and have a wonderful day.

Medieval Evaluation
Hey guys, I'm back with another post. This time about the Medieval Times studies our class has been doing.
We have learn't a lot about medieval times, mostly just delving in to our chosen topic and learning about that. My topic was Medieval Armour so i branched in to things like shields and types of Armour and had a lot of fun doing it.
I think the thing that went best was the researching for our topic was good, but i think that the making of it into a poster could've been done better since i didn't have much room to decorate mine.
Thanks loads for reading my blog and I'll see you next post! :D

Kapa Haka
Hey guys I'm back with another post, this time about our recent Kapa Haka lessons.
India, Jesse, Henry and Avania volunteered to learn and memorize certain Kapa Haka songs and actions and teach them to us on Wednesdays.
We only recently started doing the Kapa Haka lessons and most people (including me) aren't good at it at all.
I try my best at Kapa Haka but in reality were all still leaning and having fun at the same time.
Thank you very much for reading, have a great day and leave a comment if you wish to do so.

Medieval Minecraft
Hi guys, I;m back bringing you another post, this time on our classes medieval Mine-craft village.
All 3 of the year 7 and 8 classes have been working on their Mine-craft villages portraying what a medieval village looked like.
To do this activity we got into groups working on different structures based on the structures difficulty and the Mine-craft skill of our class.
Being a person who has played Mine-craft for a long time i was put in the team doing the most difficult building: the castle. Since I have been sick all this week I'm not sure how far we've come in our village but the last time I was at school we were going along nicely.
Thank you for reading I hope you enjoy my posts and again sorry for the late post but I'm very sick and still at home, anyway see you next post.

Electives
Hi guys, I'm back with another post, this time about school electives.
First of all what are electives are is a thing where you have a few choices of things you can do on Fridays. I'm in the creative computers elective where in a group of friends we make a movie and a Minecraft world.
The movie this time around is based on music videos and our group decided to use 4 different music videos each of us starring in 1 of them, mine being Kung Fu Fighting.
Our Minecraft world we based around being a big colourful arcade with multiple mini games and so cool blocks exclusive to the type of Minecraft we use, Mincraft EDU.
Again thank you for reading my post and I wanted to say a huge thanks because I recently cracked 1000 pageveiws, I know 1000 isn't much compared to some other blogs but it means a lot to me.

Castle Week!
Hey guys I'm back with a post about last week, castle week.
So castle week was a week where we were doing tasks around castles. One of the main castle based activities was to make a castle with shapes and to make it work based, we had to find diameters and ratios of our castle shapes. It was a lot of fun and I would like to say a HUGE thanks to Grace in our class for helping us finish on time.
Castle week was really fun all in all and our castle came out really well. See you guys next post and thank you for reading!

Cross Country
Hey guys I'm back and this time I'll be talking about one of the annual things in the school year, cross country.
The cross country took place on the 17/5/16 which was yesterday for me at least. But what is the cross country? Well the cross country is when all of the kids in the school have to run around a track that gets bigger for how old you are, for my age group it was the longest (as this is my last year at the school).
The cross country splits the age groups into boys and girls for each year. The cross country is held at nairnville park. After morning tea we go to nairnville and hang out till we need to have our race.
In my race i came second to last which isn't very good but i don't generally go well in the cross country.
Thank you for reading and I'll see you guys next post.

Book Review
Hi guys! I'm finally back sorry about the downtime but I'll be rolling out posts again now.
Anyway today I'll be talking about a book I read in the holidays called Snake and Lizard.
Snake and Lizard is a book about a Snake and a lizard meeting because Lizard was on a rock which was in the way of Snake, The were arguing but in the end became friends and the rest of the book is about them doing stuff together.
I give the book a 5/5 since it was written so well by Gavin Bishop and Joy Cowley how ever I would recommend to a slightly younger audience than me (12), I can't really complain about the age group though since I have been re reading it and the sequel: Friends since I was about nine years old.
Anyway thank you for reading and I'll resume weekly posts from now on, well until next holidays but for now I will be posting on a weekly basis.

I am smart
Hey guys I'm just notifying you all that I messed up and my Easter post may show up in front of my term one evaluation post, not a big deal but it's supposed to be the other way around so sorry about that one.
Easter Holidays
Hi guys I'm back from a rather large 5 day Easter break. I generally do my weekly post before this but this is the first day of the week for school and I've been pretty busy (sitting on the couch playing video games and lacking any motivation to go outside).
On the break our teachers asked us to try and do something nice for someone else so when my mum said to stop being lazy and playing on my computer I decided that I would instead of wasting my time playing video games I did some of my homework and read some books (but again no motivation to go outside).
Well as I have said many times already I didn't really do to much apart from watch YouTube and play video games and a small portion of being semi social for very small amounts of time.
In short Easter was good fun and loads of time to chill out for me and play with friends a small bit (anti-sociality lives on) and I hope you guys enjoyed this post and thank you for reading.

Term learning Evaluation
Hey guys.
It's the second last week of term one at school and I've decided to sum up the things we have learned in the term.
I have listed one thing I have learned academically, one thing I have learned socially and one thing I have learned physically.
Academic:
Through the web site Duo lingo I have been learning some Spanish each week. I haven't learned mu yet but I know some of the basics such as hola is hello.
Social:
I feel like this term I made a good effort to intermingle with different friend groups who I didn't really know were pretty cool people (I wont name anyone so no one will be embarrassed).
Physical:
Well last year I was dead scared of heights and wouldn't really go on height things at school events and such but at camp I tried to cope better with those kinds of things and I'm definitely more comfortable with heights.
So this term I think I have really improved on some of my weak points and feel like I have learned a lot of interesting things.
It's the second last week of term one at school and I've decided to sum up the things we have learned in the term.

Camp Review
Hey guys I'm back yay and camp was great fun and since I'm here I may as well tell you guys all about it!
So on Monday basically the entire day was driving there with stops at Levin Adventure Park and National Army Museum, Tuesday was a bush walk and the flying fox, Wednesday was caving and abseiling and lots of packing for the overnight, Thursday we canoed to the camping sight and set up a marshmallow fire and toasted some marshmallows and lastly we canoed back and packed to finally go home (I missed you internet).
There were plenty of challenging things at camp but i think the most challenging thing for me was the bush walk because i really hate getting muddy or wet (apart from at the pool). The thing I found the easiest was probably surprisingly the flying fox because I'm afraid of heights so I was worried but there was no work or motor skill involved so i managed to calm myself down. I was expecting to be very nervous about many things but i was very surprisingly collected when it came to challenging things. My proudest moment at camp was probably caving because it was challenging and scary but i got through it. And lastly my favorite moment was definitely the canoeing.
So you guys can expect to see regular posts from me again and as always thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed.

CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi guys I'm so excited for next weeks year 8 camp!
ON Monday next week we set off from school in cars for the 5 and a half hour drive to opc camp. The things I'm looking forward to the most are the cool cabins with ladders up to hang out rooms and camping out in tents one night. The things that are making me nervous are anything high up (I'm terrified of heights), waking up at 6:30 in the morning and no technology!!! which sadly means no post for you guys :(.
The things I need to do to make this even better than it is to give everything a go and try my hardest and be encouraging to the rest of my group.
Overall I am so excited for camp and I'm going to hopefully have an awesome time so this is good bye for a whole week and I'll be back soon!

Tech
Hello guys it's me Mahon coming back to you with some info about MT Cook school tech.
At tech we are put into separate classes to learn different life skills, the 5 classes are: technology (everyone gets confused with the whole thing being called tech and 1 of the classes being called tech...), sewing ( otherwise known as I'm useless at this), woodwork (I'm in this one right now and it's hard but rewarding), cooking ( being shouted at by the teacher for doing things wrong when really he never taught us how to do it right) and movie making ( my favourite by a longshot).
So right now I'm in woodwork but every so often (about 6 weeks) we rotate and do different classes to learn all dem life skills.
The class I'm looking forward to is movie making because it was the best last year.
As always thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed. :)

Year 8!!!
Hi guys i'm back again but this year i'm finally a year 8!!!
So, sorry i haven't been posting for a while since it was the holidays and all (and I was practically worshiping my new computer.) But enough about the holidays i'm supposed to be talking about the year so far.
The year so far has been ok the year 7s aren't being to tally annoying apart from for poor Riley who is having to set up all of their blogs for them and the tasks have been fairly easy witch is nice.
To be honest the thing i have been enjoying most of all is actually being back at school seeing my friends and just getting my bearings again and getting settled into the school year (since I've been rotting my brain with video games the entirety of the holidays.)
As with last year my time management was fine and I was able to make some friends quickly, and if i were able to change one thing so far it would be to play a bit of dodgeball at fitness time or change it up with other games but still do fitness days.
So as always thanks for reading my blog it means a lot to me and I hope you continue to read my blog throughout the year
