Best Moment This Year

This year has been a lot of fun, there has been so many hilarious moments but this one no matter how small it is, is my favourite by far.

A while back our class was playing dodgeball and our best player Thomas Milicich  threw a ball at me. I was about to walk off when I noticed that the ball was between my legs so technically I caught the ball! Doing that felt so good because afterwards my team won!

Also each year our school has a big day out and our job for this blog post is to try and predict it! The last few times we have done a sport thing so this year I'm guessing we are doing another sport thing.

Being a year 8

Next year in the very near future I will be a year 8.

Some things I would like to do as a year 8 would be to try and earn some badges because I haven't earned many this year and I would like to leave the school with a few memories.

A challenging thing for being a year 8 will be the year 8 camp because I really don't want to go and apparently I am which will be pretty hard.

I'm looking forward to being some of the oldest in the school as a year 8 because being a year 7 just doesn't feel as fulfilling as being a year 8.

I'm kind of exited and worried for being a year 8, but at least it isn't college just yet.

Book Week

Each year at our school we have a book week, book week is when we do book related work, sometimes an author comes in and on book character day we get to dress as people from books!

This years book week in yr7/8 we have easy work for two weeks like designing art from books and book reviews, and NZ author Kate De Goldi  came to our school to talk about her books.

But my favourite thing in book week was book character day when we had this book parade of everyone in the school witch was fun, I was a gladiator from the horrible history's books.

In the end my top three book week activities would be:
1. Book character day
2.Kate De Goldi
3.Fun schoolwork

What were your favourite book week activities? Please comment with your top 3.

The Animal Undie Ball

Image result for animal undie ball
The Animal Undie ball is a book written by Ruth Paul about some animals gathering from far and wide and having a huge party in there undergarments.

All the animals were having a huge party in there underpants until some other animals turn up and are not happy.

It turns out that they were only upset because they were animals that are unable to wear underpants so it was unfair for them. Then king lion decides that instead of wearing underpants they should all wear nothing so everyone can join in.

I really like this story because it delivers the moral that everyone should be aloud to join in and that no one should be left behind in a fun colourful package. If you want comment with your favourite book from child hood.

AFL

Recently people have been coming to school and teaching us the game AFL. AFL is a game similar to rugby except the pitch is bigger and oval shaped and the ball is smaller as well as some other things.

So far we have been taught the most basic kicking technique called the drop kick, the drop kick is important because it is the most accurate method of kicking for passes and goal kicking. There are a few rhymes for doing the dropkick like: laces away from faces  crosses up and down and ring fingers on the seems.

AFL is a really fun sport and I would recommend it. Also there is a sight online called AFL.nz with lots of info and clips witch is good.

My Fav Game

Image result for animal crossing happy home designerHi guys yesterday was my 12th B-day and with some EB Games vouchers given to me I was able to get What is without a doubt the my fav Nintendo game of the year, Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer!

Happy Home Designer is a game where you work for a company called Nooks Homes (run by Tom Nook) and have just been hired.

To show you the ropes one of the staff members gives you a small house to style in a cute theme, once your finished she tells you that you were actually styling her  house!

Anyway I wont spoil anymore game play if your thinking about getting this game but if you are I would highly recommend it.

Future Job

What would your job be? For me it would have to be cricket player.

I think the best courses I could take at collage are things to do with cricket like joining the school cricket team but otherwise I would just do the stock standard classes.

The best thing I could do outside of school is probably get cricket coaching or just practice a ton.

If I want to be a cricket player i'll have to stick to it but with hard work I think I can do it.

My School Holidays

Welcome back! It has been a long holiday and I haven't been posting for the entirety of the school holidays.

Well I guess I should tell you about my school holidays, in the school holidays I really just went about normal business except without the school and hanging out with friends more than usual. We didn't travel in the holidays and I spent it lazing around butthat isn't a bad thing

I didn't do much in the holidays but I'm fresh and ready to go for school.

More art

We have been doing a lot of art lately so its only fitting art update.

Our class worked so hard on making a life size astronaut we call Major Tom because we mode
led it on a member of our class called Tom and as a tribute to David Bowie, here's a picture of him.

We also have to include a piece of art from another class so I got a picture of this cool 3-D bear head.

These are my 2 favorite art works in the school and I hope you like them to

Sports Fest!!

Pre Sports Fest
On Wednesday the year 5,6,7 and 8s are going to a big sports event and playing different games. I'm writing this segment before the sports fest and I'm not sure what to  expect apart from playing dodge ball because I signed up for it.

After Sports Fest
On the day of the sports fest we travelled by bus to a few different locations for the different sports. The 2 dodge ball teams for our school were dropped off 3rd at Kilburni  Rec.

when we went inside we saw that there were lots of teams that we had to play against. Despite all the difficult looking teams both of our ST Bens teams managed to secure a solid third place and win a trophy. I think the venue worked well apart from that the back wall of the court wasn't very high and balls sometimes flew over it.
The only thing I would change is make the back wall higher.
I think that I was pretty good in the team and at one point I got a crucial out.

For me dodge ball was awesome and I really want to do it next sports fest.

A new flag

Recently New Zealand have started to consider changing the flag,
out of the options presented here are my top 4.
Koru and Stars by Alan Tran, tagged with: Blue, Red, White, Koru, Southern Cross, Peace, Strength.

Koru and stars by Alan Tran
I like this design because it is like the current one except with a koru witch feels original.

Huihui/Together by Sven Baker from Wellington, tagged with: Blue, Red, White, Koru, Unity.

HuiHui by Sven Baker
I like this design because I think it represents Maoris and NZ Europeans joining together.

Unity Fern (Red & Blue) by Paul Jackways, tagged with: Blue, Red, White, Fern.

Unity Fern by Paul Jackways
I like this one for its clever design and good colour combination.

Embrace (Red & Blue) by Denise Fung, tagged with: Blue, Red, White, Fern, Koru, Southern Cross, Multiculturalism.

Embrace by Denise Fung
Another flag I think represents Maoris and NZ Europeans coming together.

That was my top four here are my reasons for having the new flag and keeping the current one.

Changing the flag
 -Don't always get the chance.
 -Often mistaken for other countries.
 - New flag designs are really cool.

Keeping the flag
-Done so much under current flag.
 - Ties us to Australia.
-We would have to change sports uniforms and we couldn't have the all blacks.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and support my flag choices and if I had a fifth choice it would be Black jack #Blackjack!!

Haiku

Recently our class has been getting in to haiku poems, haiku is a style of poetry witch traditionally have 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the next and 5 in the last line but can be different,  here are some examples.

Antarctica
A frigid wasteland
its like an endless winter
be very careful

Space
The planets go round
orbiting our only star
as the year goes by

Winter
The tree sways gently
 in the nippy winter breeze
as I watch nature

Those are a few haikus I have written in my spare time,  I think haikus are really cool so please comment with yours if you want

Art!!!

Recently our class has been making Aztec masks as part of our Aztec project, we found pictures of real Aztec masks on the internet and copied them.

After we were satisfied with our drawings we glued pieces of paper on to make them look more like masks, heres my one.
I used various blues and blacks and whites to make mine then I did a border to finish it off.

I think I improved with my collage skills over the course of doing this activity and that doing another collage activity would be coll for our schools art exhibition.

Our Aztec masks are quite easy to do and they don't take to long if you want comment and send me a pick of an Aztec mask if you make one.

Dinner Party

Who would you invite to a dinner party if one person had to be real and another fictional? For me it would have to be Pikachu (from Pokémon) and Veronica Roth (author of Divergent)

Me: "So Pika-."
Pikachu: "Pikachu!"
Me: "So Veronica what inspired you to write Divergent?"
Veronica: "I don't know Mahon, I guess the idea just came to me."
Pikachu: "Pikachu!"
Veronica: "Why did you invite Pikachu of all people to this hypothetical dinner party?"
Me: "I thought it was a great idea at the time."
Pikachu: "Pikachu"
Me: "Shut up Pikachu!"
Veronica: "I think its best if we wrap up this dinner party Mahon besides I need to get started on the next Divergent book."
Me: "Oh all right but only because Divergent is my favourite book series."
Pikachu: "Pikachu!"
Me: "Bye Veronica Bye Pikachu."
Veronica: "Bye Mahon, you can have the very first copy of the next Divergent book."
Pikachu: "Pikachu"

That concludes my dinner party, who would you invite to a dinner party? I'd like to hear from you please comment!

My Only Grandparent Thing That I Bothered To Remeber

I haven't seen my only grandparent left in ages it had to be that time when... (flashback).

Me and my friend Riley were on a road trip to go and see my pop,
we saw some cool things on the trip to Masterton such as:
We stopped at a really nice café ,
we met more of my relatives along the way,
we found the hugest playground and must have submerged in playing there for hours.

Our road trip was awesome and really fun so I hope we have another one soon.

Nairnville Recreation Centre

Our class for the past term have been going to Nairnville Recreation Centre for gymnastics and most recently sport.

Nairnville have recently changed our class to doing sport games for our class and we have played rugby and football (I liked football more). We start our sport sessions with some sort of warm up game to teach us some basic things we need to know to play the game, the they put us into randomized teams so we can play some practice games.

I think that our Nairnville sessions are very fun and I look forward to them every week.

German lessons

Our class has recently started studying my new 2nd favourite language; German.

We have mainly learnt the basics such as: hello, goodbye, my name is..., where do you come from?, what's your name?, basic family members and all the weird things (umlauts and the ß letter called "Eszett" which is really the sound of 2 esses).

German so far has been good fun and I really recommend it

Epic values

At our school we have a thing called our Epic values, it stands for:
Empathy, Perseverance, Integrity and Creativity and we have to write about a recent time we have used 1 of our Epic values.

A few weeks ago we had to create some sort of made up animal and it had to be a hybrid of  2 things and I decided to be creative
and did a penguin and a pineapple.

Also we have to include what we think is the hardest 1 for me to do, in my opinion its probably perseverance especially for something hard.

I will try to work on perseverance for next time so see ya later

My Fav Book

what's your favourite book? Do you like all the big series like Harry Potter, or do you like books with more of a sense of humour,
what about serious factual books, for me my favourite books are the 13 story tree house books.

The first book in the series the 13 story tree house is about two boys who live in a tree house called Andy and Terry who write books together. around the 2cnd chapter their publisher M.R Bignose phones to tell them that they need to write their book by around 4:50 in the afternoon that day! and they get in to all sorts of trouble along the way

I think that the series is really worth while to read and its really funny and since its a series it will last you a while, I would recommend this book to both girls and boys.

Adaptation

At school we have been learning about an evolutionary paradise known as the Galapagos Islands.

The Galapagos Islands as you may know is the very archipelago that inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution! The main animals that helped inspire the theory are the Galapagos Islands finches, when Charles was studying the different finches he noticed that they had different beaks depending on what food they ate and what island they lived on, then he thought that they might have changed over millions of years to suit their living conditions thus making the theory of evolution.

I think that the Galapagos Islands are really cool and I hope you do to.

School jobs

At our school we have jobs for the yr7-8 kids to do and I was lucky enough to get the job of librarian!!

Before you get a job at our school you must write a letter to the teacher/staff member who runs the job and they will decide if your in or not, once you have a job you get a badge and they tell you when your on for example Tuesday morning tea (that's when I'm on) and you come at that time to enact your duties in your job.

I managed to get the job of librarian which is mainly sorting books, issuing books for people and other book related things, I really enjoy library because I love books and I have learned lots about all the different things we do in our library and the only thing I found challenging is to remember to come on my shift!!

I really like my role as librarian but sadly we don't get paid.

financial literacy

wow another good post things are getting interesting around here!!

on Wednesday a man from asb came to tell us about saving money and it was absolutely hilarious. He had some stuff with him which helped explain how to make money and have fun, he told us about how different jobs earn different amounts of money and minimum wage and how you have to get a degree to get some jobs.

In the end I found it very informative and funny and I really liked it.

ANZAC comemorations

Welcome back everyone I have decided to write about the recent Anzac day commemorations.

Anzac day as you know is a day to celebrate our brave Anzacs who
risked their lives in the war many never returning to their homes
to fight the turks.

some things I have learnt include:

there were many ways the Anzacs fought with the turks including testing the turks witch was putting their hats on top of their riffles and seeing if they would shoot it

Anzac stands for Austrailia New Zealand army corps

there were many different types of badges awarded in the war including the victory  medal.

Of course I have learnt a lot more than this but these are just a few of the basics.

I hope you have learned a few things from this post bye.

Totally epic teamwork skillz

Hi Mahon here again telling you about my team work skills.

So, this weeks blog task at school is to write about our team work skills since we have been doing lots of group things recently.
In our team work activities I was decently efficient when I made our whole poster in one night but since my buddy Tyler didn't like it he made a completely different poster!! But in the power point since as I mentioned in a previous post I'm not very computer savy
I wasn't much help in it.

In our poster so far I have no idea about how far we have gotten since I gave it to Joshua last Friday because he's the best drawer and I already did the border.

All and all I think I was pretty good  at the team work tasks and enjoyed them very much.

learning stuff !!

Hi Mahon here bringing u the latest news around the class room!!

Well recently we have been learning about countries and I have been doing ireland, our task sheet says that we have to put one interesting fact about our country so I shall say that their official currency is the euro. If you want to learn more about Ireland I have found this link useful http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/countries/ireland/

also the task list said that I have to write about a person in class that I have learned something about so I'm going to do Sharon

-She is a really good artist
-She loves Harry Potter
-And she is awesome at power points

Now I have to include a piece of info that could be about anything
and I recently learned how to make a link. Yes I know I should be
able to do a link since I'm 11 but we don't have a computer at my
house so I've never learned any of those useful things.

Again thank you for reading my blog and if u have any helpful feed back plz comment (but don't send anything that says I fed your virtual animals because it's not helpful but u can if u want) bye!!

Q.I quotes

Hi Mahon here telling you about my favourite T.V show, Q.I.

So Q.I is basically a show about a bunch of comedians who compete against each other to answer  interesting questions like how many frogs make a ribbit noise the answer is one, but it's the frog witch lives in Hollywood so people get mixed up about that.

Stephen Fry: Anything white is sweet, anything brown is meat, anything grey, don't eat.

Stephen Fry: If a Lion mates with a Tiger, you get a...?

Alan Davies: Scandal

Alan Davies: I am *not* as stupid as you think!

Stephen Fry: No, you're not, you couldn't be.
